The Regional Directorate for Tourism is responsible for:

Supporting the regional secretary in defining and implementing regional policies to support the tourism sector;

Ensuring the use and preservation of the tourist resources of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, namely by carrying out physical-tourism planning studies of areas considered to be of priority interest, with the aim of the correct management and sustainable framework of tourist facilities and flows to be set up in these areas, in conjunction with the relevant Regional Government departments;

Promoting or supporting the actions undertaken within the scope of the regional tourist offer, as well as initiatives to promote tourism in the Autonomous Region of the Azores or other related actions, in particular by taking part in initiatives of interest to this sector of activity;

Publishing articles, texts and information of interest to the regional tourism offer;

Collaborate with all regional, national and international services and organisations on all matters of interest to the tourism sector, particularly those involved in integrated development activities or projects of interest to the regional tourism offer;

Representing the Autonomous Region of the Azores at official and private organisations linked to the tourism sector, whenever determined by the authorities, with regard to the sector's interests and objectives, as well as participating in international and national organisations and events in the same field;

Ensure that other tasks are carried out which, within the scope of their area of competence, are assigned to them or entrusted to their responsibility.
