Frequently asked questions (Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

The insurance contracts that all tourist recreation companies have to take out are:

  • Personal accident insurance that guarantees payment of treatment costs, including hospital stays, and medicines, up to an annual amount of €3,500;
  • Personal accident insurance that guarantees the payment of a capital of 20,000 euros in the event of death or permanent disability of its clients, with the capital for death being reduced to the reimbursement of funeral expenses when they are under the age of 14 years old;
  • Civil liability insurance that guarantees €50,000 per claim, and an annuity that covers damage caused by claims occurring during the term of the policy, provided they are claimed up to one year after the expiration of the contract.

Very important::

  • If policies provide for excesses, these cannot be invoked against injured third parties;
  • Nor can they contain clauses limiting the age of the insured, as they are mandatory insurances.

The (scanned) documents to be attached are indicated on the form, the most important of which are the following:

  • Plain copies of insurance policies and proof of payment of premiums;
  • Detailed programme of recreational activities, with an indication of the equipment to be used. In the case of car tours, send us the tour itineraries (indicating the place of departure and arrival, the main points of passage and the planned stops), as well as a copy of the vehicle booklets;
  • Declaration that the equipment and facilities fulfil the legal requirements;
  • If this applies, documentation on the use of trademarks registered with the INPI - National Institute of Industrial Property.

Registration with the RRAAT requires payment of a fee of between €90 and €135, depending on whether or not you are a micro-enterprise. The micro-enterprise certificate is requested at www.iapmei.pt, where, on the homepage, you must select the ‘SME Certification’ option in order to access the certification online.
