Baixio da Ponta Queimada is a coastal shoal located about 250 m from the coast, opposite the town of Queimada, just three minutes by boat from Porto das Velas. It is an extensive platform, with depths ranging from 10 m to 24 m, dropping to 60 to 70 m at its edge. The platform is formed by several interesting rock formations and heads that have given rise to corridors and small caves and crevices teeming with life, with various species of moray eels and small bottom-dwelling fish, as well as some passing pelagic fish, such as White travally (Pseudocaranx dentex) and Greater amberjack (Seriola spp.).
