The Cabeços do Ilhéu dive is recommended only for experienced divers due to the currents that can occur here and the greater maximum depth. This is the most visited of the four deepest dives in this area, all of which are excellent for technical diving. It is one of the best dives on the island for observing bottom-dwelling fish, located less than 1 mile from the islet of Vila Franca do Campo. The top of the wreck is located at a depth of about 25 m, gradually dropping to 45 m. Its top is covered with large branches of black coral (Antipathes wollastoni), an area where we can immediately begin to see the main attraction of this site: several large Dusky perch (Epinephelus marginatus) and dogfish (Pseudolepidaplois scrofa). At the edges of the shoal, we can often see impressive schools of pelagic fish, such as almaco jack (Seriola rivoliana) and barracudas (Sphyraena viridensis), and even, sometimes, devil rays (Mobula mobular) swimming slowly in the blue during the summer months.
