Also known as the Empire of Charity or Recognition, its construction, which began in 1759 and ended the following year, was a symbol of gratitude and recognition from those who witnessed the eruption of Cabeço do Fogo in 1671/72. It is one of the oldest Imperios in the Azores, probably one of the first to be built in stone.
