This is one of the best places on the island to observe eurasian woodcock (Scolopax rusticola) and Goldcrests (Regulus regulus azoricus) throughout the year, or, in autumn/winter, to spot Common snipe (Gallinago gallinago). Occasionally, ducks or other shorebirds can also be found, especially if the Pedro Miguel ponds are dry or suffer from some kind of human pressure.
