Parque da Grená
Park

The Parque da Grená is located near the Caldeiras da Lagoa das Furnas, and covers an area of approximately 18 hectares, including trails, viewpoints, a ruined manor house and waterfalls, in particular Salto do Morgado, also known as Salto da Inglesa, which has a pool of crystal clear water at its base, accessible by 634 steps. Its historical roots date back to 1832, and its name is associated with the English consul in Ponta Delgada, named Vines, who, in 1858, built a summer house on this property and named it Grená in honour of his wife. It later belonged to other English families and even served as a hotel. In the 20th century, in 1987, it was acquired by the Presidency of the Republic, and then purchased in 2015 by the Regional Government of the Azores, which sold it again, in 2018, at public auction, to a private entity. It is currently being operated by the company Feliz Terra, which restored it and transformed it into the first tree climbing park in the Azores. It is open to visitors all year round, according to a timetable and upon purchase of a ticket. It has toilet facilities.
